Alaska volcano Mount Redoubt erupts 5 times, active again after 20 years. Redoubt erupted in 4 large explosions, sending an ash plume 50,000 feet into the air. Mount Redoubt is 100 miles southwest of Anchorage, close to the larger cities in Alaska. Geologists had warned seismic activity around the volcano had been intense in recent days, and expected that the volcano would blow soon. A Radio report Mar 20 said an Undersea volcano erupted causing the 7.9 earthquake. It was many hours later that I heard about the earthquake. There is one day difference between Tonga and the USA. The quake is reported as March 20 (Tonga time) which was still March 19th in the USA. There is a string of underwater volcanos in this area - and all over the Pacifc. Scientists have even searched for them just off the coast of the US Pacific NW.
